The Break-Up (almost) show!

disc 1

01. Cursed Diamond (acoustic - Chris & Rich only)
02. She (acoustic)
03. She Talks To Angels (acoustic)
04. Waitin’ Guilty (acoustic)
05. Thorn’s Progress Jam >

disc 2

05. Twice As Hard *
06. Stare It Cold *

07. Seeing Things
08. Could I’ve Been so Blind
09. Champagne N’ Reefer
10. Remedy

WHAT MAKES THIS SHOW ESSENTIAL: This show almost never happened as Chris and Rich came to blows before the show. They were ready to cancel the show, and the rest of the tour, but were convinced to make this the last show of the band's career (cooler heads prevailed afterwards and the tour went on). It has been said that the opening Cursed Diamond, featuring only Chris and Rich, was the song that saved the band. Add in the other 3 acoustic songs that began the show, and the overall quality of the entire performance from the first minute to the last, and this is an essential show for a Black Crowes fan.

SHOW BREAKDOWN: The Crowes have been known to break out acoustic mini-sets at various shows over the years, but this one undoubtedly ranks as one of their best. Besides the above comments about Cursed Diamond, you should know that perhaps no other performance of the song in it's decade plus life matches the passion and pure soul that is in this one. If Chris is apologizing to Rich through this song, as it certainly sounds he is, it is one hell of an apology.

With the rest of the band now joining the Bros Robinson on stage, they move into a Graham Parsons cover called She. The Crowes have always been good about choosing cover songs that fit their band, and this one is no different, allowing Chris and Rich to harmonize a little bit. She Talks to Angels is introduced by the organ of Eddie Harsch, before Rich joins him with the simple chords on guitar. Much slower and more dreamy than the hit album version, this is another example of live performance blowing a studio creation out of the water. Not to be forgotten is the gorgeous job of coloring the song that Marc Ford does. His little bits of noodling are perfectly placed. The band picks up the pace a bit for Waitin Guilty before plugging back in.

The group has made a steady habit over the years of jamming for a few minutes before actually starting Thorn in My Pride, and some of these jams have even been given titles, becoming almost like songs themselves in some ways. The Thorn's Progress Jam is a perfect intro to Thorn in My Pride. For those who don't like jamming, you won't like this version, which at 12 and a half minutes, is, well, kind of long. For those who love to hear Marc Ford wail on lead guitar, and Chris Robinson blow on the harp, this is a truly great performance.

The jamming continues on the pen-ultimate Black Crowes "jamming" tune, My Morning Song, probably already the greatest song in the band's catalog, made even better here in a twelve minute or so version. While I have heard better live versions of this song, with better jams, there is something to be said for this version. The bridge finds Chris improvising some great lines that fit well into the original theme of the song, and the buildup out of the bridge, already a tremendous thing on the studio version, is a monster as always.

Disc one ends with a perfunctory version of Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye. Perfunctory not in the snese that the performance is merely "okay" or whatever, just that it is a bit of a comedown from the genius of the last two songs with extended jam sessions.

Disc two plays out as a much more straight up disc. The jamming is kept to a minimum, mostly played out for only an extra couple of minutes at the most. This isn't really surprising given the amount of straight up anthems found in the second half of the show (I'm looking at you Twice as Hard, Sting Me and Stare It Cold).

The other cool thing about this disc is that it helps you realize how bada*s a groove P 25 London really does have, even if the lyrics and Chris' vocals are about as obnoxious as you can get. Add in excellent renditions of Sometimes Salvation and High Head Blues, and disc two is a winner just as much as disc one, though for completely different reasons.

The encore features two songs from the band's debut that don't get enough play (Seeing Things and Could I've Been So Blind), before delving into Muddy Waters for a cover of Champagne N Reefer. This track once again finds Chris wailing on the harp, and gives yet more definitive proof that this band makes perfect choices in terms of cover songs.

The show ends in the hard rock groove known as Remedy. On their most recent tours, Remedy has become very sped up, and it has lost a lot of the luster that its groove held. A version like this helps remind you why you fell in love with the first place, with a very controlled yet rocking pace, and the fact that drummer Steve Gorman isn't going apesh*t on the crash cymbols.

Given how popular they are amongst bootleg traders, there is any number of Black Crowes shows I could've chosen for this spot. However, given the band's recent rise from the ashes, and the historical importance of this show to the band's continuing history at the time, it only seemed appropriate to do this show. As mentioned above, the new soundboard source didn't hurt either.

Bivouac Jaun is a project recorded in the spring of 1984 featuring Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, and one-time Phish percussionist Marc Daubert. It also features appearances from Dave Abrahams, drummer Pete Cottone, and guitarist Roger Holloway. Anastasio plays a wide array of instruments on the album, with "Run Like an Antelope," "Slave to the Traffic Light," and "Letter to Jimmy Page" featuring Anastasio on all instruments. Marshall plays keyboards on all tracks and Daubert handles percussion and additional guitar.

Most of these tracks would appear in a remixed fashion on the first Phish album (known as The White Tape), which would circulate in various versions starting in 1986. An expanded version of the project includes Trey Anastasio solo acoustic guitar performances previously circulated as "untitled four-track project."

Bivouac Jaun was never released but has been circulated in bootleg form since the mid 1980s. However, copies are extremely rare and very hard to acquire.

Track listing

1. Slave to the Traffic Light
2. Run Like an Antelope
3. The Divided Sky
4. Letter to Jimmy Page
5. Aftermath
6. Ingest
7. Prolonged Exposure
8. I Am Hydrogen
9. Fluff's Travels
10. Little Squirrel

Television
6/29/78
Waldorf Theatre
SF, CA

Image

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DJMTUON9

1 The Dream's Dream
2 Venus
3 Foxhole
4 Careful
5 Ain't That Nothin'
6 Little Johnny Jewel
7 Friction
8 Marquee Moon
9 (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Some bands make their mark from the stage. Others do their best work in the studio. Television must be experienced in both contexts. The jam band of punk, they massaged their songs to mesh with whatever vibrations coursed through a given concert hall on a given night. They performed faster and heavier on stage, adding rich overdrive to the crystalline tones heard on their first two studio albums, 1977's Marquee Moon and 1978's Adventure (both available in expanded, remastered editions from Rhino).

This set was recorded during Television's sole U.S. headlining tour, to promote the Adventure album. They start with "The Dream's Dream," which sputters sparse avant flourishes before unleashing its mid-tempo procession of harmonic delights. Fred Smith's seething bass lines punch through with particular immediacy. A faithful reading of "Venus De Milo" follows, and then "Foxhole," a wound-tight rocker that simmers with punk stabs and nervy guitar workouts.

Television then tackle two more Adventure tracks, the New York Dollsy "Careful" and "Ain't That Nothin'," the staccato single that here sports a slightly extended jam section. Their first single, "Little Johnny Jewel," gets an improvised spoken section in the middle, while "Friction" remains similar to the version on Marquee Moon. Next, that album's title track stretches out with a few extra minutes of soloing, falling just short of its 17-minute peak heard elsewhere on the tour. The band encores with "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," a tense but otherwise reverent rendition of the Stones' classic that flies off in a freakish guitar solo before returning to a stomping, soulful finale.

Released concurrently with Rhino's expanded and remastered editions of Marquee Moon and Adventure, this passionately performed, sonically rich live recording completes the picture of Television in their late-'70s prime.

Slow, quiet, melodic and dreamy.
Jerrys voice is spot on.
The music is low and soft, the songs are super heavy.
It's perfect for a quiet, spring afternoon.

Whenever I up stuff (not credited to anyone else) I usually encode to V2

Usually stuff is at 192 or better when it comes from other sources

I've never really run into something I've discarded simply because it is "too mp3-ey"

anyway...

Santana shows

These should all be some kind of soundboard/broadcast quality.

Don't burn these to cd and trade them.

You can find specific info on my list: http://www.phishhook.com/lists/jankeefa ... =0#Santana

Last note - the 81 show is mislabeled in the files as 91.

_________________________________________
General Notes:

Since Charlie Miller recently seeded a very nice 1st or 2nd row FOB AUD,
with plenty of Garcia's guitar in the mix, I decided to couple it with
the well circulated SBD since that source was woefully lacking in the
guitar in the mix factor, due to the fact that Garcia's stage volume was
plenty loud and little reinforcement was needed from the SBD, especially
in the first few tunes of the first set. The mix of the SBD improves by
Knockin', but Jerry stays relatively low in the mix for the rest of
the show; thus, having plenty of him in the AUD, allow the two sources to
work well together. The fact that Cleveland Music Hall is a nice sounding
room also helps.

This is a great show with a very tasty setlist. The whole band is on,
and Jerry never lets up, all the way from Melody through Tangled.

Thanks to everyone involved. For the FOB AUD, thanks to the person who
recorded it, to Dave Lisuch for the 2nd gen cassettes which Charlie Miller
transfered, edited and coverted to FLAC; for the SBD, thanks to whoever
recorded it, to Mike Lai for the original seed which jakemerc edited and
converted to SHN.

This show is a blues lovers dream, imo.

Happened the night after the taping of this: A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan

Tickets were very difficult to get. You could only buy two tickets and had to show ID upon arrival to the show. It was a packed house and the rumors were that everyone from the show the night before might show for this concert.

So Jimmy Vaughan and his band played for about an hour, then Robert Cray comes out and plays two songs. Then Clapton comes out for two songs, and then Buddy Guy comes out for his two. All three stayed onstage the rest of the night with Jimmy and band and just rocked it out.

My buddy stealthed this show (SonicSense DSM6>D7) and it turned out nicely.

Setlist:

Hey Yeah
Don't Cha Know
Just Like Putty
D/FW
Texas Flood
Flamenco Dancer
Hot Dog
I Like It Like That
Tilt-A-Whirl Theme>Cray intro
No Love
The Welfare
Tilt-A-Whirl Theme>Clapton intro
Reconsider Baby
Third Degree
Tilt-a-Whirl Theme>Buddy Guy intro
Sweet Home Chicago
I Can't Quit You>Buddy's Jam
The Same Thing
Further On Up The Road>
Let Me Love You>
Take Me Back
Wee Wee Baby
Early In The Mornin'
Can't Judge Nobody
Lovestruck Baby
Encore: crowd
Six Strings Down>
SRV Shuffle>outro

Set: Grinnin' In Your Face >

I Can't Quit You Baby,
Wandering Child,
Life Before Insanity,
It Hurts Me Too,
She Said, She Said >
Tomorrow Never Knows jam
Encore: Tastes Like Wine,
Soulshine

Gov't Mule headlined the first day of this Bayou Festival in NY. Disco Biscuits played right before them, which was weird. I drove up for this show solo from NOVA, and it turned out to be his last show. Very fitting that his last song played live was Soulshine, imo.

Don't have source info for this one. Sorry. It is an audience recording.

Pretty sure it's a SBD, but don't have lineage.

Set: John The Revelator > Thelonius Beck > Game Face > Painted Silver Light, Thorazine Shuffle, Don't Step On The Grass, Sam, Birth Of The Mule, Almost Cut My Hair > Larger Than Life > Trane > Norwegian Wood tease > Lively Up Yourself > She Said, She Said > Tomorrow Never Knows jam, Blind Man In The Dark > Mule

Encore: Red House, Smokestack Lightning

My friend and I taped this show five feet from the stage using an AT-822 mic triangulated between two huge speakers hanging from the roof of Tree's. AT822>DAP1>D7. Most people who have this recording already mistakenly label it as a SBD, it's that good.

But it's the performance that makes it one of the epic original trio Gov't Mule shows. Maybe they were inspired by Guster opening. I don't know. Whatever the case, the boys brought the serious heat and if you like old school Mule, this is the show for you.

out of curiosity, does anyone have any shows from this tour other than this one. This one's the only one I've seen or heard. It's way good. I'm just curious how the others sounded as well.

Thanks for all this!

This show was fun as hell on the webcast last night. First set smokes, and second set is, well, kind of weird. Gotta love the YEM closer followed by Rock n Roll. Great way to send the crowd out thinking that ITS ALL RIGHT

1.If I was a mod I know I wouldn't have time to research what is legal and not.
2.This never was a download site, just lists, trading, and "discussion"
3.Even since the beginning of torrents it has always been a grey area sometimes.
4.MP3, LOL
